The Asia Cup is a cricket tournament that takes place between the national teams of Asian countries. It has been held intermittently since 1984 and is organized by the Asian Cricket Council (ACC). The tournament originally started as a biennial event but later became a quadrennial tournament.
Here is a brief history of the Asia Cup:
1984: The inaugural Asia Cup was held in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The tournament featured four teams: India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and the UAE. The round-robin format was used, and India emerged as the champions by defeating Sri Lanka in the final.
1986: The second Asia Cup took place in Sri Lanka. The number of participating teams increased to five, with Bangladesh joining the tournament. Sri Lanka won the competition, defeating Pakistan in the final.
1988/90: The third edition of the Asia Cup was scheduled to be held in India in 1988 but was canceled due to political tensions between India and Pakistan. It was rescheduled for 1990 in the UAE but was again canceled.
1995: The Asia Cup finally returned in 1995, hosted jointly by India and Sri Lanka. The tournament featured four teams: India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh. India emerged victorious by defeating Sri Lanka in the final.

2008: Pakistan hosted the Asia Cup for the first time. The tournament had four teams: India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh. Sri Lanka won the cup for the fourth time, defeating India in a closely contested final.
2010: Sri Lanka hosted the Asia Cup, featuring four teams. In a thrilling final, India defeated Sri Lanka by 81 runs to clinch their fifth title.
2012: Bangladesh hosted the Asia Cup for the second time. The tournament featured four teams, and Pakistan emerged as the champions by defeating Bangladesh in the final.

2018: The tournament returned to the UAE, featuring six teams: India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, and Hong Kong. India won the cup for the seventh time, defeating Bangladesh in the final.
2020: The 2020 Asia Cup was scheduled to be held in Pakistan, but due to political tensions between India and Pakistan, it was rescheduled to 2021. However, the COVID-19 pandemic led to the postponement of the tournament.
